SUMMARY

Wadhwani AI is collaborating with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to operationalize the IndiaAI Mission. As part of this effort, we are mobilizing a team of professionals with expertise in AI and tech policy to address policy challenges at the intersection of policy-making, artificial intelligence, technology, and systems-level change. We are seeking an adaptable and enthusiastic Technology Policy Associate to join the Wadhwani AI PMU unit at the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) team. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of technology policy issues in one or more of the following areas: creation of data platforms, policy design for establishing R&D innovation labs, digital platform development, data privacy and protection frameworks, startup financing policies, digital skilling initiatives, responsible AI practices, and AI-driven digital transformation strategies. 

This role requires the ability to shape and navigate policies that support technology innovation and governance by leading policy development, engaging with key stakeholders, and representing Wadhwani AI in various policy forums. The Technology Policy Associate will play a critical role in advocating for policies that align with our organizational goals and values.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Policy Development and Strategic Advisory: Provide well-researched expert policy advice and recommendations on AI-related issues to government officials and stakeholders. Engage with industry experts, academia, and think tanks to incorporate diverse perspectives into the development of policies and programs.

  • Project Planning and Implementation: Assist in planning, implementing, and monitoring key projects and initiatives under the IndiaAI mission, such as the IndiaAI Innovation Centre, Datasets Platform, Application Development Initiative, FutureSkills, Startup Financing, and Safe & Trusted AI.

  • Research and Reporting: Support research efforts to understand global best practices, emerging trends, and regulatory frameworks in AI to inform policy-making and program development. Help prepare policy briefs, reports, and documentation for internal use and advocacy

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Coordinate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to ensure timely delivery and integration of activities across different pillars of the IndiaAI mission.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Foster strong relationships with government bodies, research institutions, startups, and international organizations to promote collaboration and knowledge-sharing.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Technology Policy, Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Law, Economics, or a related field. A Master’s degree is highly preferred.

  • Relevant certifications or specialized training in AI, data governance, digital policy, or emerging technologies would be an advantage.

  • 4-5 years of experience in technology policy, public policy, digital governance, or a related field, with a focus on AI, data governance, or digital transformation.

  • Awareness of the ethical and social implications of AI and digital technologies in governance and public policy.

  • Ability to adapt to evolving technological and policy landscapes and propose creative solutions to emerging challenges.

  • Experience working with government agencies, research institutions, think tanks, or technology firms on policy development, regulatory analysis, or digital initiatives.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical issues to non-technical audiences

  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines

  • Collaborative mindset, with experience working in cross-functional teams

  • Strong problem-solving skills to navigate complex environments and work effectively under pressure.

  • High ethical standards and commitment to promoting responsible AI practices, including transparency, fairness, and accountability.
