SUMMARY

Wadhwani AI is seeking a versatile and visionary Engagement Lead to oversee our strategic interactions with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and other crucial stakeholders. This pivotal role involves providing strategic direction at the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and the social sector. As an Engagement Lead, you'll architect national data management initiatives, drive policy discussions, and spearhead AI-related activities for MeitY.

Wadhwani AI is a nonprofit institute building and deploying applied AI solutions to solve critical public health, agriculture, education, and urban development issues in underserved communities in the global south. We collaborate with governments, social sector organizations, academic and research institutions, and domain experts to identify real-world problems and develop practical AI solutions to tackle these issues to make a substantial positive impact.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Build and nurture strong relationships with key stakeholders at MeitY, including senior officials, policymakers, and technical experts.

• Serve as the primary liaison for MeitY and other relevant government bodies, donor agencies, and ecosystem partners, ensuring alignment of objectives and priorities.

• Provide thought leadership on AI applications in the social sector, identifying opportunities for innovation and impact.

• Lead strategic initiatives to shape policy frameworks for AI adoption and governance in India.

• Experience in working on dataset platforms and ability to define scope, structure and functions for a data management office. 

• Develop and execute comprehensive engagement strategies to promote awareness and understanding of AI opportunities and challenges among stakeholders.

• Plan and execute AI-related activities such as workshops, conferences, and capacity-building initiatives in collaboration with MeitY and partners.

• Monitor and evaluate the progress of AI initiatives, providing regular updates and reports to stakeholders.

• Stay abreast of AI technologies, regulations, and best practices, integrating relevant insights into engagement strategies and activities. Represent the organization in relevant forums and advocate for the responsible use of AI for social good.

Requirements

• Bachelor's / Master's degree in Computer Science, Public Policy, Economics, or related field. Specialization in one or more of these disciplines is preferred.

• Minimum of 12+ years of progressive experience engaging with government agencies, preferably in the technology or social sector.

• Knowledge of Indian government ecosystem

• Proven track-record of working on AI systems including, design, development, deployment and user adoption and evaluation. 

• Ability to translate AI technical jargon into simple literature for government stakeholders. 

• Previous experience working with government departments or ministries, particularly in roles involving policy development or strategic engagement, is preferred.

• Expertise in AI technologies, applications, and policy considerations, with a demonstrated thought leadership in the field.

• Strong relationship-building skills with diverse stakeholders, along with analytical and strategic thinking abilities.

• Excellent communication and presentation skills.

• Experience in project management and program coordination, driving results in a fast-paced environment.

• Familiarity with the Indian regulatory landscape and policy-making processes related to technology and innovation is highly desirable.
