As a Legal Trainee within our Wadhwani AI, you’ll help scale AI innovations that tackle India’s most pressing challenges—from healthcare diagnostics to agricultural resilience—while gaining unparalleled experience at the intersection of law and frontier technology. Your contributions will fuel ethical AI deployment and cross-sector partnerships that improve millions of lives, positioning you at the vanguard of legal practice in social innovation. Upon successful completion of the traineeship period, and at the discretion of the hiring manager, the position may be considered for conversion to a full-time role.

Wadhwani AI is a nonprofit institute building and deploying applied AI solutions to solve critical issues in public health, agriculture, education, and urban development in underserved communities in the global south. We collaborate with governments, social sector organizations, academic and research institutions, and domain experts to identify real-world problems, and develop practical AI solutions to tackle these issues with the aim of making a substantial positive impact.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 Legal Documentation Support

 

  • Draft and review basic agreements including NDAs, MOUs, vendor contracts, and addendums with attention to clarity and precision.
  • Support contract lifecycle management, including document tracking, renewals, and maintaining executed agreements.

  • Ensure proper document execution, including notarization and secure filing in legal repositories.

2. Compliance & Research

 

  • Assist with FCRA compliance processes, such as organizing documents, supporting audits, and maintaining proper records.

  • Conduct legal research on sector-specific laws (e.g., healthcare, education), data protection regulations (DPDP Act), and state-level compliance requirements.

  • Gain familiarity with organizational structures like societies and their legal implications.

3. Stakeholder Collaboration

 

  • Draft initial versions of board notes, meeting minutes, and internal legal briefings.

  • Coordinate with internal teams such as Finance and Operations for document collection and regulatory compliance checks.

4. Technology & IP Support

 

  • Review and support execution of basic tech-related contracts (SaaS agreements, platform terms & conditions).

  • Assist in preparing and organizing IP-related documentation such as licensing agreements, content rights, and digital compliance materials

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Final-year law student or recent law graduate.

  • Strong command of English legal drafting.

  • Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to handle sensitive documentation.

  • Familiarity with nonprofit, tech, or policy-driven sectors is a plus.
