SUMMARY

This role leads the development and implementation of Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning (MEL) plans for AI solutions, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and donor requirements. It involves overseeing M&E activities, measuring the impact of AI deployments, and driving evidence-based learning. The individual will foster partnerships, build capacity within the organization, and ensure high data quality for continuous program improvement. Additionally, they will represent the organization in stakeholder engagements and advocate for innovations in data systems and research dissemination.

Wadhwani AI is a nonprofit institute building and deploying applied AI solutions to solve critical issues in public health, agriculture, education, and urban development in underserved communities in the global south. We collaborate with governments, social sector organizations, academic and research institutions, and domain experts to identify real-world problems, and develop practical AI solutions to tackle these issues with the aim of making a substantial positive impact.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership:

  • Lead the development and implementation of MERL plans for AI solutions, aligned with organizational goals and donor requirements (e.g., USAID, BMGF).

  • Drive MERL strategy to measure outcomes, improve solution deployment, and ensure evidence-based learning, while contributing to new program proposals.

Monitoring & Evaluation:

  • Lead the M&E team to design and implement data-driven systems for monitoring program progress, quality, and impact.

  • Develop key performance indicators, learning questions, and metrics, and ensure effective data collection, management, and reporting for actionable insights.

Research, Learning, and Impact Measurement:

  • Lead efforts to measure and validate the impact of AI solutions, collaborating with institutions and overseeing research initiatives to inform policy.

  • Ensure research complies with ethical standards and disseminate findings through reports and presentations.

Capacity Building & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Build MERL capacity within the organization and partners, providing training and mentorship on data systems and decision-making.

  • Collaborate with donors, government agencies, and stakeholders, and represent the organization in high-level forums to share insights and best practices.

Data Systems and Quality Assurance:

  • Oversee data systems for efficient collection, analysis, and reporting, ensuring quality, integrity, and real-time monitoring innovations while maintaining confidentiality.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Expertise in designing and implementing M&E frameworks, data systems, and research studies.

  • Proven expertise in quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis methodologies, implementation research approaches, data quality improvement, program management information systems, data visualization and reporting.

  • Proficiency with statistical and analytical software (e.g., SPSS, R, Stata) and digital data management tools.

  • Strong strategic thinking, communication, and leadership abilities.

  • Familiarity with the social sector landscape and policy context in India.

  • Fluent in written and spoken English.

  • Excellent facilitation, oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally.
